The Lemon Detox Diet Review

After having read a lot about various stars undertaking the ‘lemon detox diet’ (also commonly known as the ‘lemonade diet’ or ‘lemon diet’), I decided to try it out for myself. At first I was a little skeptical because the idea of drinking a lemon concoction 6-10 times a day and excluding solid food for two weeks seemed a little daunting. But I really wanted to detox my body so went ahead with it.

The lemon detox diet is typically comprised of the following ingredients:

1. 1 – 2 cups of mineral water
2. 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
3. 2 tablespoons of organic maple syrup
4. 1/10 of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper

All you have to do is mix the basic and easily obtainable ingredients together to produce a natural lemonade packed with detoxifying nutrients. The simplicity of the lemon diet is what attracted me in the first place. Other diets I know of required far more preparation and the purchase of things I wouldn’t necessarily buy or have in my house.

Cravings on The Lemonade Diet

I found it really difficult in the beginning and kept craving solid food, which is of course natural. The lemonade diet has been one of the biggest tests of will power for me. I’m glad that I started on a Friday so that I had the weekend to adjust because I quickly started to feel tired, weak and a little irritable. By day 4 the cravings and hunger pangs subsided and my body began to adjust.

Losing Weight On The Lemon Detox Diet

As a result of the lack of fibre in the lemon diet, I drank a laxative tea. I think this is an important part of the diet in order to normalize your digestive system and avoid constipation. I lost quite a lot of weight in a short space of time but that wasn’t my initial goal. I got a number of compliments on my new figure which drove me to start exercising and eating well in order to maintain it.

Summary

Once I slowly re-introduced normal food back into my life, starting with soups and then more solid foods as advised, I felt as though the lemon detox diet had done what I set out to do; which was to detox my system. I stopped just shy of the two weeks and lasted 12 days. The lemon diet is fairly drastic and I am not entirely sure safe, although it does produce results. I lost weight and I visibly improved the look of my skin; it took me a few days to recover and feel strong again, but when I did I felt good for it. However, I have since enrolled in a new detox program which is a lot more enjoyable and feels a lot more natural and less like starvation. You can read more about this new detox program here.
