WhiteSmoke Review

Owning a website and writing reviews as an amateur writer is challenging. It often takes me a couple of hours to put a review together. I spend ages analyzing sentences and punctuation trying to look like I at least paid attention in school. I am not worried about getting my work absolutely professional like a journalist, but I at least want my reviews to be pleasantly readable so people get the most from my experience.

For me the biggest advantage was the advanced grammar checker, as I felt that was where my writing was letting me down. I always got stuck on small annoying issues like whether or not to use a comma before “which”, or whether to use “is” or “are” when referring to a business name. I also really appreciate the missing word detection. So often I look back over a piece of work in astonishment that I totally missed a word out of a sentence, and worse still didn’t pick it up on a second edit.

For non-native English speakers I can see how the program would benefit the learner hugely. The software is capable of detecting all common errors and provides self-improvement tips too. By simply pressing F2 the program checks for basic and advanced grammar, spelling and sentence structuring mistakes. It also detects passive verbs, overused words and wordy phrases. There is also a handy translation feature with the 2011 version, and you get free automatic software updates.
